The Crown Point Aeromodelers was chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics, Inc. (AMA) in January 25, 1981 and has been in continuous operation since that time. The club maintains a membership of approximately 70 members, conducts monthly meetings and yearly elections. Membership is open to anyone with a desire to pursue the hobby of model aviation. The club conducts Radio Control and U-Control flying of miniature aircraft at a field located south east of Crown Point, Indiana. The field contains a 465' grass runway (north-south) and a 275' grass runway (east-west). There is also a shelter structure, trash barrels, and a PortaPottie for the comfort of the members and visitors. These facilities are behind locked gates on 165th Avenue and can only be accessed if you are a member. If you wish to visit the facility, you may contact any OFFICER to arrange for a member to escort you.

The county and surrounding farmer have appointed us as the responsible organization for safe operation of all flying at this field. This responsibility includes control and supervision of all activities in this area. Everyone using the airfield must observe the following rules:
  • Be a member of AMA and follow the AMA Guidelines.
  • Be a member of CP Aeromodelers or the guest of a member.
  • Abide by the posted CP Aeromodelers Operation Rules and Guidelines.
  • Follow the AMA Safety Code.
  • Follow CP Aeromodelers Frequency and flight control rules.
  • Demonstrate to an CP Aeromodelers member the ability to safely operate an R/C or U-Control Aircraft.

Each AMA member must sign a statement that they will abide by the AMA Safety Code. Each member is protected by $2.5 million dollar Commercial General Liability Accident / Medical insurance coverage.

The AMA has contests and other activities in locations all over the U.S. and the world. As you become a more proficient flyer you may wish to travel to these events and be a participant.

Anyone with an interest in Model Aircraft building and flying will benefit from membership. Modeling is an excellent family activity and many new friendships are created through associations at the field and the events during the flying season. Many members travel together to fly-ins and contests around the country. You can download a Membership Application HERE.

Flight training is free to members. Meetings are held the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Crown Point Civic Center in Crown Point, Indiana. CLICK HERE for directions
